The Wrapp - Duck duck gaming, unsual escapades and Digimon crossovers

Hello! And welcome back to The Wrapp, our regular feature where we chat about our weekend gaming plans. This time around, Catherine has bowed to peer pressure and dived into JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. Elsewhere, Will's got really into ducks, and Shaun is giving Digimon in idle RPGs a second chance.

It’s finally happened - thanks to Will and Iwan repeatedly gushing about this series on the Pocket Gamer Podcast, I have given in to the JoJo fever. It started with Steel Ball Run on Netflix, and now that JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Spirit is out, I’ve decided to give it a go. 

I will happily spend a good chunk of my weekend trying to earn enough free-to-play credits to grab Jotaro Kujo from the gacha, because the devs have very cleverly locked him behind a paywall on a limited-time banner to make him even more desirable. My husband, the JoJo fan, has had a replica of Jotaro’s hat sitting nicely in our closet for 13 years now, so now that I finally understand the reference, I will stop at nothing to pull him from the summons pool, even if I have to spend all weekend clearing every single event imaginable to do it. May the odds be ever in my favour!

Hello and welcome to my weekly and sudden outburst confirming something that everyone has already known forever: Our devices are listening to us. I know it's quite the shocking revelation, but there are ways that we can use this to our advantage. I guess, just be wary of the kinds of nonsense conversations that you have with people. On that note, my device was definitely listening to me during our podcast recording this week, and now I'm being suggested duck-related games.

And so, for this week, I'll be trying out Quack Bag: Duck Mafia, because why not? It looks crisp, wacky, and has that fast arcade feeling. Should be fun for a quack up.

Ever since the release of Digimon Up, I have been drowning in a sea of disappointment. It was god-awful. I have said it before, and I will continue saying it forever: Digimon Arise deserved a better legacy. Perhaps that will come in the form of AFK Journey's upcoming Digimon collaboration. It launches on August 18th, so it won’t be this weekend's plan, but since I've never played AFK Journey before, I'll spend the next two days getting to grips with the game so I can be ready for the collab. However limited, it will be better than Up.

Thanks to the heat here in the UK, I’ve mostly been staying indoors (the pub counts as indoors, right?) And that means I’ve actually had a chance to dip into plenty of new releases on mobile, such as My Hero Academia United Survival late last week and earlier on Monday. I was pleasantly surprised by it, and found it to be a major improvement on another Vampire Survivors-inspired big-name spinoff, Walking Dead: Aftermath.

But now comes the real test this week and weekend as I dive into JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Spirit. Having been one of the early fans even before the release of the first animated series, I’m very curious to see whether this sways my opinion in favour of a character-collecting RPG.

Nothing new has particularly grabbed me this week, which means it's an opportunity to dip into stuff I've been wanting to revisit. About a month ago, I wrote about how House of the Lost: Revived channels 2012 jank in good and bad ways. While I enjoyed a lot of what it offered, a few technical hitches held it back. Apparently, those are now fixed, so I'm keen to return and see if that's the case. If it pairs well with my Razer Kishi V2, I could see myself putting in a lot of hours.
