The Wrapp - Protecting the Earth, flying aces, and defensive dragons

Happy Friday and welcome back to The Wrapp. Our regular series where we discuss our weekend gaming plans. We're a depleted squad this time around, with Iwan and Dann sauntering around the halls of Gamescom. But myself, Shaun, Catherine and Will are still here to chat about detectives, anime games and bullet hell shooters.

Amidst all the horrifying and unbelievable things that have happened this year, there's something else that we could possibly see as positive. This is the year when so many household anime and animation names are taking heavy stabs at the mobile market. Earlier, we had Hunter x Hunter: Nen Survivor; this was followed by My Hero Academia: United Survival, and most recently we got JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Spirit. All of which sounds pretty cool, but is it… Invincible?!

Yep, this weekend, I'll be playing Invincible: Guarding the Globe, and it's all about collecting the heroes (and not-so-heroic characters) to make them fight your battles for you. So I'm gonna see if they do a good job.

I was planning on going on a quick road trip this weekend en route to a lovely overnight stay, but last-minute scheduling mishaps have promptly chucked those plans out the window. Now, instead of having tea and staring out into space away from the hustle and bustle of the city, I’ll have to have tea and stare out into space inside my own home - which I don’t actually mind, being such a homebody.

And because I’ll be stuck at home anyway, I might as well hone my tower defence skills with Twilight Towers, just in case monsters suddenly attack me and I’m forced to summon dragons to defend my tea time.

Following my delve into the seedy waters of a mallard mystery last week, I am still feeling the call of sweet lady justice. This week, I think I will go for something a little more supernatural. The Dark Side Detective is an excellent Twin Peaks-inspired adventure where you solve some spooky crimes, and with the long bank holiday weekend, I might even have time to squeeze in the sequel, too. I won't be going out anyway, not with all those holidaymakers about - what a nightmare.

One of my favourite mobile games last year was Acecraft. Yes, largely because it reminded me of Cuphead, but it was a genuinely fun bullet hell shooter too. The only reason I stopped playing was that I had to play other things for work. Now that it’s celebrating its first anniversary, though, I'll take advantage of the long weekend by popping on my flying goggles and taking to the skies once again.
