Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis release date and the rest you need to know

Back in February, Square Enix announced that two new Final Fantasy games would be heading for iOS and Android. One of them was a battle royale title, whilst the other was a more traditional RPG called Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis. We'll be looking in-depth at the latter today since most long-time Final Fantasy fans will be looking forward to it the most.

So, if you have found yourself on this page, you're most looking to absorb as much information about Square Enix's next mobile RPG as possible. We've got you covered, whether you're looking for the latest on the Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis release date or simply what the game itself is about. Here's everything we know so far.

Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis gameplay

What is Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis?

Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis is a singleplayer role-playing game that will receive monthly, episodic instalments. It looks to retell the events of all the titles from the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. This includes Advent Children, Before Crisis, Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus alongside Final Fantasy VII itself. It should serve as a great introduction for beginners alongside a new way for long-time fans to experience the story in whichever order they'd like by selecting chapters from a timeline.

In addition to simply retelling the story that most players will already be familiar with, players can enjoy completely new content. This includes the backstory for Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier and tales from the childhoods of Final Fantasy VII characters. Ardent fans of the series can expect plenty of new lore related to the Final Fantasy VII universe.

The gameplay, meanwhile, utilises an Active Time Battle System, which is similar to the one used in the original game. This means we can expect to be creating a party of three, with each character being able to perform actions when their gauge is full. This could include using abilities, magic or summons. If it remains loyal to the original game, each character will also have a Limit Break attack to unleash after they take a certain amount of damage.

Developer Applibot is also taking an interesting approach with the game's graphics. When exploring the overworld, Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis has a cute, retro-styled look that's sure to evoke feelings of nostalgia from fans. In battle, however, the art style switches to a look that is closer to Final Fantasy VII: Remake.
