Swing your warhammer!

- Sovl: Fantasy Warfare is out now on iOS
- It offers a mix of digital strategy and a ruleset for real-world miniatures
- Experience a roguelite campaign, AI battles and multiplayer
The tabletop fantasy wargaming world is one that, surprisingly, isn't just dominated by the likes of Warhammer. In fact, there are plenty of other competitors out there, and some, such as Sovl: Fantasy Warfare, offer an intriguing mix of digital and physical tabletop wargaming!
Sovl: Fantasy Warfare isn't just a digital version of a tabletop wargame; it's also a companion app. The digital version offers its own roguelite campaign, Trail of Death, which lets you go from a small warband to a grand army, all with the intent of taking on the final boss.
It also comes complete with all the other features you would expect, such as a versus AI mode and multiplayer. But Sovl also offers its own army builder feature, too, meaning you can take the ruleset and apply it to regular tabletop miniatures. With that in mind, it presents a pretty intriguing package for fans of digital strategy and miniatures alike.

Gotta' have sovl
A glance at the visual style of Sovl indicates that it's very much trying to translate the tabletop to digital, and depending on your opinion, that can be a good or bad thing. I can certainly see older players enjoying both the aesthetic and the fact that this is a ruleset useable on the tabletop too, but for younger players, it may not be flashy enough. At the same time, with the base game being free and the only paid purchases being additional factions, Sovl certainly seems to offer quite a bargain for those who miss the wonders of the Old World.
