Slime & Machinegun, a brand new Vampire Survivors-like 2D action game, launches onto iOS

Slime & Machinegun, which has officially launched onto the App Store as of today, is a brand new Vampire Survivors-meets-20 Minutes Till Dawn roguelike action game developed by atrium games. This one sees you tackling various stages full of slime-based enemies who throw hundreds of projectiles at you as you try to forge a build capable of slaying them all while you dodge and weave between their attacks.

With a gorgeous 2D retro pixel art style and a bit of a fresh take on the Survivor-like genre, Slime & Machinegun is likely to see a lot of success. In each stage, you’ll have to slay enemies to get new pickups that all change your weaponry in interesting ways, all while you have to take careful aim at your opponents and dodge their attacks in the same way.

While a lot of these Survivor-like games have enemies that throw projectiles at you to dodge, Slime & Machinegun takes it a step further by making just about every enemy have that ability, meaning this is a true bullet hell. There are some simple enemies that just walk at you for you to mow down, but most will be returning just as much fire as you’re dishing out.

Combine that with the building mechanics of picking up new guns and items that make said guns perform in different ways, along with the interesting mechanic of the player’s attacks getting stronger for a short period of time after they take damage, and you’ve got a decently different take on what’s become quite a popular genre.

The success of Vampire Survivors has clearly inspired a lot of games in a similar genre, and while said genre has become a bit oversaturated, it’s nice to see developers still trying their hand at freshening it up and making interesting little indie games like this to spice it up.

But don’t take my word for it. If you’d like to give Slime & Machinegun a go yourself, you can download it at the link below for free!
