Of the 'in another world...' genre, there's a surprising number of them set within the world of gaming. Sword Art Online, Overlord (to an extent) and, of course, Shangri-la Frontier. Now, the hit anime is set to finally see its spin-off mobile adaptation, The Seven Colossi, bear fruit with a new announcement trailer!
In a world where VR has become commonplace, teenager Rakuro Hizutome gladly plays all the worst, bottom-of-the-bargain-bin trash that there is. That all changes when he's finally convinced to try out the AAA-tier MMORPG Shangri-la Frontier and finds out that his skills at exploits and grinding have a surprising amount of crossover.
The Seven Colossi, then, promises to translate much of that fictional action to mobile. It allows you to hack and slash your way through the world of SLF not just as Sunraku himself (that's Rakuro's bird-headed character) but other members of the cast too.
In fact, The Seven Colossi is surprisingly built quite strongly around the idea of rapidly switching between characters. You'll be able to play in portrait mode with only one hand and rapidly jump between two separate characters. It's a surprising diversion from the MMORPG setup, but a welcome one at that.
And considering that Shangri-la Frontier: The Seven Colossi was announced more than two years ago, there's something very authentic about the drop in communication before this abrupt announcement. Regardless, for fans of the series, this'll be a particularly welcome release from Netmarble, especially hot on the heels of Solo Leveling: Karma's announcement.
