What's in a name?

Quite a lot, according to developer Spooky House Studios.

It released Doodle Train in March: an on-rail action-puzzle game to which our reviewer Steve McCaskill gave a Pocket Gamer Bronze Award, saying "Doodle Train will have your thinking cap permanently affixed to your head".

But the combination of the name and doodle-y art style didn't get people excited.

"For some reason, the game didn't turn out to be a great success," its designer Andrei Gradinari mused.

Still, believing in its work, the developer decide to remake the game with a different art style and a new name.

Enter Rail Maze.

There's been some cosmetic changes in terms of reordering the levels, making the tutorial less intrusive, and adding a nice train steam effect. Of course, the biggest one is the change of art style, which - as you can see from the comparison screens below - is more honed and cowboy-like.

Also significant is that the game is now available for free, compared to the 99c that Doodle Train launched at.

You can get Rail Maze now for iPhone and iPod touch, or check out how it plays in the following video.
