Old School RuneScape continues the Mahjarret storyline from 2001 with the Secrets of the North quest

Old School RuneScape continues the Mahjarret storyline from 2001 with the Secrets of the North quest

Last month, Jagex held a Winter Summit where they revealed a roadmap for everything coming to Old School RuneScape in 2023. Events until the summer were showcased and these included new questlines, minigames, skills, and other features. Learn more about it in our recent article.

But the most notable announcement of this roadmap was a brand new Master level quest called Secrets of the North. It carries a wave of nostalgia because this mission is a continuation of the Mahjarret storyline, which began all the way back in 2001. 22 years later, a new chapter begins in a quest that features a solo-only boss encounter and a number of exclusive rewards.

Someone has been murdered and the list of suspects is endless. All players will find themselves convicted as well alongside members of the Hazeel cult and the Khazard Forces. It is imperative to get to the bottom of this and that would only be possible by revealing the identity of the true killer and their motive. This will only be possible by forming an uncanny partnership with two other mahjarrats.

Rewards that can be obtained during this quest include a new Venator Bow for all archers and upgrades for the Ancient Potion and Ancient Staff. And to gain more loot, players can farm the boss encounter as well since it is repeatable.

While it has been 22 years since the Mahjarrat storyline kicked off, Secrets of the North will pick up from the Desert Treasure quest that launched 17 years ago. It isn’t a direct sequel to that quest but it is building up towards it.

Desert Treasure II will launch later this year featuring four brand new areas, each will a ferocious new boss - Vardorvis, Duke Sucellus, the Leviathan, and the mysterious Whisperer. This upcoming storyline will explore the mysteries of the Kharidian Desert.
