Immortality, Sam Barlow's interactive horror trilogy, has been pushed to next month
Immortality is an upcoming FMV created by Sam Barlow, the man behind mystery games like Her Story and Telling Lies. The interactive game is not a one-and-done but it will be part of a trilogy of games that explores the disappearance of Marissa Marcel. While Half Mermaid Productions announced the FMV last year, there’s a little bad news for those awaiting its arrival as Immortality’s release has been pushed slightly to August 30th now.
Immortality has been touted as Sam Barlow’s most ambitious and expansive project ever. It was recently shown off at the Tribeca Film Festival as well. The game will release on PC, consoles, and mobile via Netflix Games. Check out the trailer of part one of three below.
Speaking about the delay, Barlow said: “It has taken decades for Marissa Marcel’s work to find the light of day, so we’re happy to spend a month more to ensure the experience is as polished as possible. We hope everyone anticipating the game will understand this necessary evil and continue to prepare to dig into the most complex mystery I have tried to answer yet: what happened to Marissa Marcel?”
In case you haven’t heard about Immortality, here’s a little rundown. It is an investigative horror FMV, Barlow’s first since Silent Hill: Shattered Memories back in 2009. It follows the tale of Marissa Marcel, a movie star who has made three films. Unfortunately, they never saw the light of day. Then, all of a sudden Marissa vanishes. As the story unfolds, players will come across footage from these unreleased movies, which must be studied in order to find hidden clues and secrets.
Immortality takes the genre to the next level with bold new features like those of Pokémon Snap, and a power-packed team comprising writers Allan Scott (Don’t Look Now, Queen’s Gambit), Amelia Gray (Mr. Robot, Maniac) and Barry Gifford (Wild at Heart, Lost Highway). Be prepared to uncover all the mysteries behind Marissa Marcel’s disappearance soon…
