Pocket Gamer's weekly mobile gaming news round up - April 12th 2019
Adventure, opinion, more blades
Another week in mobile gaming is coming to an end. I guess another week in the real world is coming to an end as well, since these things sync up so nicely. It's been a busy old week in these parts though, with new games coming out left, right, and centre, and we've gotten some glimpses at more distant titles that we reckon are going to be really special.
Obviously we want to make sure that you're caught up on everything that's happened over the past seven days, mainly so you're ready for what's almost certainly going to be another crazy week of news, reviews, opinion, and previews next week. Mobile gaming doesn't stop, so neither do we.

This week has been a real bumper one if you're a fan of adventure games - there are two or three recent releases that take the genre in really interesting different ways, so if you like pointing, clicking, and stories, there's definitely going to be a new game on the App Store or Google Play Store that's going to scratch that itch.
We've also previewed a bunch of games this week, from shooters to meditative road trips, to a monster-killing card game set in a school. A lot of the games we've covered are coming to Apple Arcade as well, so make sure you check them all out to get a sense of what the service is going to look like when it launches towards the end of the year.
Be sure to check back next week, when we'll be covering all the big mobile news with all the gusto you'd expect from Pocket Gamer. The best new games
It might not have been a vintage week for new games, but there were some gems among the rocks. Anyone with a penchant for dark humour, intriguing stories, and anthropomorphic animals should definitely check out our Stone review by clicking here.
Elsewhere the brilliant OCO came to Android this week, and it's well worth checking out. Click here and you can read our OCO review to see why. Rusty Pup is an intriguing puzzle platformer from a dev team that can include Conker's Bad Fur Day on its CV, and Distraint 2 is a gloomy horror game about the demons in our heads. They're all real good.
The best previews
Cardpocalypse is a card game set in a school. It's got a gorgeous hand-drawn art style and the sort of silly humour you'd hope for. It's coming to Apple Arcade, and you can check out our hands-on with it by clicking this link.
Gigantic X is an upcoming shooter for iOS and Android. Imagine Diablo, but in future space, and with a bunch of ideas from Monster Hunter thrown in. It's really good, and you can check out exactly why by clicking here to read our preview.
Hitchhiker is another game that's coming to Apple Arcade. It's a story about travelling across America, and while it might seem mundane at first, there's a lot more going on than that original glance suggests. Click here and find out why we're super excited for this one.
Lastly we had a look at Katana Zero, which is coming to Switch later in the year. It's super fast, super cool, and it's got a few tricks up its sleeve that are going to get you hooked. You can find out what they are by clicking here and checking out our preview.
The best guides
Once again, in the world of guides, this week was all about The Elder Scrolls: Blades. It's the game that keeps on giving, and Dave has now played enough that he dreams of angry rats and slowly opening chests. He is a bit weird though.

The best lists
This week we updated our guide to the best word games for Android - we absolutely love word games in these parts, and we hope you do too - you can check out what we think are the best ones currently available on the Google Play Store by smashing a click right here.
And if that wasn't enough, we also revealed what we think the 5 best mobile RPGs of 2019 so far have been. There are some really interesting games on that list, and while I might be biased, I definitely think you should give it a read.
The best opinion
As you might imagine, The Elder Scrolls: Blades is still pretty big in our minds right now. After a weekend of playing it, and some other games, I wrote an article about the one thing that the game needs to change if it wants to really succeed when it comes out of early access.
There's been some dissent in the social-sphere, but we'd love to hear what you think. Click here to give the article a read, and make sure you leave a comment if it tickles your fancy.
