Activision is readying Call of Duty: Mobile up for a new event, with this one centred around ‘80s action movies. The update will be available for the game on iOS and Android, and will also take place in Call of Duty: Warzone and Black Ops Cold War.

Although the details are still bare, the event is called 80s Action Heroes and is being released to coincide with Warzone’s recently-released Verdansk 1984 map, which arrived in an update that saw the nuclear decimation of the old map as it wound the clocks back 35 years. It also sees the introduction of two iconic characters from action films of that time; John Rambo and John McClane.

The official announcement of the 80s Action Heroes event came in a tweet posted by the Call of Duty account, which you can see below. It reads “Some heroes Die Hard. Others draw First Blood. The action begins May 20th.”

Meanwhile, hints to this new event were already made in the days prior to this announcement, with cryptic tweets referring to Rambo’s kill count in the movies as if it was his K/D ratio in a Call of Duty game, as well as referring to a fictional website called Nakatomi Duct Cleaning, which is a reference to Die Hard.

“I’d like to point out that in the slides we showed you [earlier], there was a little ‘classified’ section for ‘80s Action’… there is some cool stuff we’ve got planned for the 80s, so feel free to speculate on that,” said Amos Hodge, the creative director of Call of Duty Warzone in an interview with Video Games Chronicle.

More details about this new event in Call of Duty: Mobile should become apparent next week. The update will go live on 20th May on the iOS App Store and Google Play.
