Black Clover: The Opening of Fate, a brand new mobile RPG adaptation of the anime series, set to launch for Japan audiences next year

Vic Game Studio has announced that their next project will be a mobile adaptation of the popular anime series Black Clover. Titled Black Clover: The Opening of Fate, this one seeks to retell the story directly inspired by the manga through a series of quite wonderfully realized 3D and CGI cutscenes along with some engaging turn-based gameplay.

Funnily enough, this project is actually a separate entity from the other early 2023 expected Black Clover mobile game that was announced previously - Rise of The Wizard King. The differences between the two are a bit tough to point out given how few details we have for either of the projects, but from the looks of it, Rise of The Wizard King is a bit more of an MMO-style adventure with open-world adventuring while Opening of Fate seeks to be a more traditional JRPG style with story beats cut between turn-based combat.

There are not a ton of details on The Opening of Fate yet, and most of what we’ve seen are the cutscenes - which, to be fair, do look quite lovely. However, there is a small bit of combat that you can glimpse in the developer diary linked above, and it looks just as good as those cutscenes. If I had to compare the style of combat, it reminds me a lot of NiER: Reincarnation or Dissidia Opera Omnia.

Beyond that, the story content is likely to be that of the manga or the anime series, as the developers haven’t said that this one is an original story or spin-off, so expect to be going over the same stuff you’ve seen if you’re a fan of the anime.

Regardless, Black Clover fans have a lot to look forward to with two pretty high-budget mobile projects projected for an early 2023 release date, meaning they won’t even have to wait long either! If you’d like more details on The Opening of Fate specifically, check out the official teaser website!
