Pullblox/Pushmo clone is free on Android - can you hear the sound of Nintendo lawyers?

Have you played Pullblox (Pushmo in the US) for the Nintendo 3DS yet? If you haven't, you really should. It's a phenomenal puzzle experience, and one that we saw fit to hand a coveted Platinum Award to.

Of course, you might not have a 3DS, and therefore can't give it a try. Got an Android device, though? Well, then you might want to grab BlockShift... pronto.

It's a Pullblox clone for your 'droid mobile or tablet, which centres on a guy chasing robbers who keep putting loot on top of piles of blocks. By pulling the blocks out of the flat wall and making them 3D, you can jump all over them and make a pathway up to victory.

The game has already received a multitude of 1-star ratings on Google Play, with users marking it down for being "a Pullblox clone". The developer has acknowledged that he was heavily inspired by Pullblox, and because the game is free to download, you can, of course, decide whether it's worth your time or not.

The tipping point in the clone talk is that BlockShift can very cheekily read QR levels codes from Pullblox and build levels around them - essentially, stealing a mode from Pullblox.

It's worth noting that Nintendo isn't going to be releasing Pullblox on a rival platform any time soon, so for the millions of people who haven't had the chance to experience the wonder that is Pullblox, this is now at least a partial way to do so.

Not that this knock-off can match the quality of its inspiration. Levels in BlockShift are pleasant enough, but the controls are rather untidy and they aren't particularly tight.

We'll also be very surprised if the game isn't pulled from the Google Play Store soon, thanks in no small measure to the fact that the majority of levels in the game are based on pictures of copyrighted characters, including Mega Man, Mario, and Metroid.
