It's all about uniting Ancient China in this week's Ahead of the Game series, where we tell you about a new mobile endeavour that's playable in one form or another despite its unofficial launch.
There seems to be no end to Three Kingdoms-themed games on any platform, and I'm not complaining at all. The era is filled with action-packed adventures that easily make for engaging gameplay, and what's incredibly enjoyable about Go Go! My Lord's case is that it's all laid out in very casual Capybara Go-esque fashion.
And I absolutely love Capybara Go. While there are no plump capybaras taking up arms here, the perfect mix of roguelike and idle progression keeps the loop interesting and the replayability totally off the charts. And when you splash a Three Kingdoms-themed coat of paint on the whole thing, that just makes it even more intriguing to me.
Essentially, you play as an honourable warrior fighting off troops left and right on a quest to help reunite China, with randomised encounters you'll stumble upon along the way. You might bump into a merchant, a training master, or just random dudes brawling in the street - and every choice you make will either offer you banes or boons you'll carry with you throughout the whole run. Perish - as you so often will - and you'll get sent back to the main menu, where you can upgrade your stats and summon powerful generals to fight by your side.
And apparently, when you play long enough, you'll get to put your skills to the test against World Bosses, which include one that looks suspiciously like a Gundam mech.
Now, I don't know about you, but I'm pretty sure those didn't exist in Ancient China. But when the character art is this adorable, and the visuals are this charming, I'm willing to believe anything.
So, how do you play Go Go! My Lord - Roguelike RPG?
Out now in its early access phase, Go Go! My Lord is fully playable on Google Play for Android players out there. From my experience, there can be a few typographical hiccups here and there, but it doesn't seem like there are any glitches to worry about at the moment, and it all does feel pretty polished enough for what it is.If you're looking for a fresh new twist to your average idle RPG that doesn't take itself too seriously, this cute alternative might just do the trick!
