Riot Games announces global Wild Rift Esports competition in the fourth quarter of 2021

The executives of Riot Games have finally confirmed that the esports scene of the popular MOBA, League of Legends: Wild Rift is coming in late 2021. The announcement was made by John Needham, Global Head of Esports at Riot Games who added that the tournament will be global.

To start the selection process for the global tournament, Needham said that they will be selecting the best regional teams to participate. In addition, there will be a set of selection criteria and the teams falling under this can proceed.

Regional teams have already got into the action as the game hosted its first regional championship tournament in South East Asia, the SEA Icon Series. This five-week-long competition has invited players from Vietnam, Taiwan, Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, with a total of 54 professional teams.

By conducting these events in different regions, Riot plans to gather professional players from all around as it gives every region a chance to showcase their skills and talents and it also helps them to increase their reach.

Following the announcement made by Needham, Leo Faria, Global Head of Wild Rift Esports has also mentioned that a regional schedule is being made and official information regarding the upcoming event will also be released soon enough.

As Wild Rift’s Esport scene is a huge opportunity for the executives at Riot since it allows them to delve into the mobile community while utilizing the experiences gathered by conducting League of Legends PC’s Esports tournaments.
