Warframe beginner's guide - Get started on your space ninja adventure the right way
This popular sci-fi RPG can be tough to dig into, so let us help you along with some starter tips in our Warframe beginner's guide.
Warframe is a dense, content-packed endeavour with a barrage of information constantly needed to understand your next goals. Due to this, many new players who pick up the sci-fi action RPG will likely find themselves very overwhelmed with all the information and choices available right from the get-go.
Lucky for you, we’re here to help you dial in on a few specific goals to jumpstart your new Warframe career.
From the second you log in, and after the intro cutscenes, you’ll be thrust into the tutorial mission, which will help you figure out the controls and get a grip on how moving, shooting and melee all work. Once completed, you’ll get overloaded with information.
Warframe beginner's guide
Once presented with your Star Chart, the map of various mission nodes and planets, each connected through branching paths, you should simply follow it. A key goal for every lower-ranked account and player is to simply clear your Star Chart, as it will help you to unlock various quests and rewards, as well as level up your Mastery Rank (basically your account level) along the way. Each node will present a different mission type, but they remain fairly easy to clear for a while before you need a solid build.

Builds and Mods
Speaking of, what about builds? Well, as you play, you’ll unlock various Mods, which are essentially what allow you to create your own weapons and builds. Regardless of who you started with (either Mag, Excalibur, or Loki), some of the early Mods that can drop from basic missions can be useful. Things like Redirection or Vitality provide simple survivability, while Intensify can power up your abilities.
Mods start at level 1 and can go up to various max levels depending on rarity, the type of Mod, and so on. They’ll be levelled up by utilising Endo, a resource found all over the Star Chart. At the beginning, Endo can be tough to come by without knowing some super intense strategies, so for now, just level up the useful stuff when you can and don’t worry too much about doing everything optimally.
There are an unbelievable number of Mods available, so experiment with them and try to hone in on either powering up your weapons or your Warframe. Personally, I’d recommend getting your starter weapons as powerful as possible and using them to clear the Star Chart as far as they’ll go, which is a perfect way to pivot to the other key part of your starter guide: weapons!
2
Weapons
Weapons are as in-depth as every other facet and can be overwhelming to comprehend fully. You’ll start with different weapons depending on your choice of Warframe at the start, but irrespective of that, you can make literally any weapon very powerful as long as you invest in it, with some requiring more than others.
For now, use those starter weapons until you max out their level. Every time you level up a weapon to the max rank, it’ll progress your Mastery Rank (that account level mentioned earlier), giving you access to new and stronger Warframes, weapons, and content. This should be your secondary goal alongside clearing your Star Chart, and I would focus on simply hitting those max levels with the basic gear before you really worry about making super-strong builds, as most of the starter weapons are rather weak.
Once those are maxed out, you can purchase the blueprints for some other basic gear from the marketplace for simple credits, of which you’ll likely have a good amount after clearing a few missions. Continue this loop until you can’t afford new weapons with credits anymore, then you can start farming other weapon blueprints and crafting those. Speaking of, let’s touch on crafting!

Crafting
As you play, you’ll come across plenty of blueprints; these are items that will go right to your crafting table and require a fair bit of various materials to create. Usually, weapons and Warframes will come in three parts, all of which will need their blueprint collected and made to piece together into the full thing. This is usually where the farm and grind part comes in hard, but most of the starter low-rank gear is fairly easy to make.
Another way to grab some real early blueprints is to join a random Clan through the Clan finder. Usually, this doesn’t even require you to be particularly social or truly meet new people, as you can just apply for any of the clans up for grabs.
Once in the clan, you can go to your Clan Dojo after crafting a Dojo Key and head to one of the various Labs. These will have terminals selling a lot of early weapons and blueprints alike, so be sure to check ‘em out.

To sum it all up
With all of these things covered in our Warframe beginner's guide, you should be set for your first 30 or so. Just follow this loop of:
- Clearing your Star Chart missions
- Levelling up various starter weapons and Warframes
- Modding your gear when you feel you’re too weak to progress
While this does not cover every single part of the starting experience, as that would take about a hundred articles, this should help you understand the general flow! And if you'd like ot get your hands on some freebies while you're at it, how about taking a peek at our Warframe codes too?
