Valiant Force 2, the sequel to the popular 2016 tactics RPG, launches into SEA regions
Singaporean studio XII Braves has launched their latest title, Valiant Force 2, for SEA regions. This free-to-play sequel to the mobile strategy RPG sees you enter a high fantasy anime-styled world full of colourful and unique characters to meet and collect. Combine this large cast with a pretty engaging storyline as well as really in-depth tactics-based combat, and Valiant Force 2 sets itself up to be a good option for anyone who enjoys the genre.
When I describe Valiant Force 2 as a tactics game, I do not simply mean that it is tactical. Tactics-based RPGs are games like War of the Lions, Disgaea, or even X-COM 2 and its predecessor. Typically, these are grid-based battlers with a lot of different mechanics to consider in each fight, including terrain, weaponry, and the skills you can utilise with your given party members.
Terrain is actually one of the new features that Valiant Force 2 introduces, whereas the previous iteration did not have this mechanic. Basically, your party member’s stats will get buffed or debuffed depending on what type of terrain they are on, such as water, forests, sand tiles, and more. This makes fights take even more consideration than before in terms of positioning, so you’ll have to make sure you examine the map before each battle.
Valiant Force was known mostly for its tactical gameplay, but there’s a pretty decent if not a tad generic fantasy plot here too. You’ll team up with your ragtag group of characters you encounter as you progress through the campaign to take down the big bad guy and end the war. This is a pretty straightforward plot, but the well-written characters make up for it enough that it’s not a slog to get through.
So, whether you're a fan of the genre or of Valiant Force as a whole, this might be the game for you. Give it a spin for free at either of the links below, as long as you’re located within the SEA regional areas.
