Rubicon: A Conspiracy of Silence is an upcoming narrative game that is heading for iOS, Android and Steam this Wednesday, October 20th. It follows Paula Cole, a food safety officer who finds herself becoming a whistleblower as the story progresses.

The game was developed by Midnight Mood Studio and La Belle Games in partnership with the online newspaper Mediapart. It sees players making several choices that will lead them to different situations. Mediapart helped with the scenario to bring a sense of authenticity to the journalistic work on display.

Speaking about the partnership, François Bonnet, co-founder of Mediapart, said: “With our partners, we took a bet: demonstrate that video games can be a continuation of journalism in other ways. And it worked! By becoming Paula Cole, a whistleblower, each player of Rubicon will understand how the unveiling of information of public interest comes up against powerful actors but helps to change society."

Discussing the game, Thomas Sandmeier, co-founder of Midnight Mood studio, said: “The journalistic investigations allowed us to work with a rich material to create an interactive story. The video game medium allows us to transcribe the process that whistleblowers go through, from the premises to the revelation, with a special focus on the psychological and social aspects.”

Rubicon: A Conspiracy of Silence is available to pre-order on the App Store, Google Play and Steam ahead of its release on October 20th. It is a premium title that costs $4.99 on mobile.
