Roamers is a new social geolocation game for your iPhone that allows you to jump into the middle of a battle between the living and the dead.

Your job, should you choose to be Human, is to administer a special antidote to as many Zombies as possible, in the hope of turning them back to the side of the living.

Choose to be Zombie and your aim is to seek out fleshy mortals and infect them with a deadly virus.

All in a day's work

Your mission takes place on real maps across real-world locations such as Paris and New York, with both teams represented by green and red markers.

Turning your opponent to the opposite team is a simple case of tapping on their marker. A notification will alert them to the attempt, giving them one minute to vacate your range and escape your attack.

You'll even earn several badges for completing certain tasks, such as successfully turning 25 players, with possible prize giveaways - started through notifications - for similar achievements.

You can connect your game to both Facebook and Twitter, and share your progress with your friends through tweets and status updates.

It's all part of the story

Finally, the game's creators are currently developing a community driven backstory, which will unfold as players find story pieces scattered around the world. This story will be displayed on the Roamers website for your perusal.

Roamers will enter a beta testing stage over the next few days, and if everything goes swimmingly it should appear on the App Store some time this autumn.

Until then, check out the teaser trailer below and the screenshots above for a sneak peak at what to expect.
