After last week’s release of the 2D sidescroller Sengoku 2, SNK and Hamster are bringing us a new mobile port of another classic sidescroller through their ACA NeoGeo library: Prehistoric Isle 2. This action-packed quasi-shoot-em-up sees you take on the role of a helicopter pilot as you navigate a sci-fi world full of dinosaur enemies to eliminate.

Prehistoric Isle 2 is a weird one, both in the nature of gameplay and concept. Gameplay-wise, you can expect something not too far from a bullet hell, but rather than the typical top-down view, you actually get to experience the same sort of gameplay through a 2D perspective. It’s a different way of doing things and makes it a pretty unique title.

Setting-wise, it’s almost just as strange. Dinosaur invasions are not a super uncommon idea, but once you start playing Prehistoric Isle 2, you’ll understand exactly what I mean by this. These dinosaurs are not your typical lumber-around-and-demolish-all-beneath-them types with their claws and teeth - oh no.

Instead, Prehistoric Isle proposes that our dinosaur friends could spit projectiles out of every side of them, covering your screen in a multicolour mishmash of destruction. They’ll fly, come beneath you, crawl on the ceiling - whatever it takes to take you down. Luckily, you’re piloting a helicopter, so you have full movement beyond left, right, up, and down to dodge all of these projectiles.

It’s a crazy game, in all honesty, and your screen will be full of foes before you can even breathe, so you’ll need to be in tip-top shape with your reflexes to meet the challenge.

If that sounds like your thing, you can currently purchase the ACA NeoGeo port of Prehistoric Isle 2 at either of the links below for $3.99.
