Pokemon UNITE will have a regional beta test in Canada for Android devices during March
We haven't heard a whole lot from Pokemon UNITE since it was first announced for iOS, Android and Nintendo Switch in June last year. Today, however, we learned from the official Pokemon website that there will be a beta test in March this year.
However, before the entire world gets excited at the prospect of going hands-on with a Pokemon MOBA, this will be a regional beta that is limited to Canada and Android users, so Switch and iOS users will have to wait a little longer. The post on the site includes a full list of eligibility criteria, which are as follows:
- The Pokémon UNITE regional beta test is open only to residents of Canada
- Players must be at least 16 years old to participate
- In-game progress will be reset upon the beta's completion
- Capture or streaming of gameplay is not allowed during the regional beta test
If you missed the initial announcement of Pokemon UNITE it will be a 5v5 MOBA where the aim is to capture as many Pokemon as possible within a time limit. You'll net points for your team with each capture and, naturally, whoever has the highest score by the end of the round will be declared the winner.
The game is being developed by TiMi Studios, who you may know as the folks behind the likes of PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty Mobile. They certainly have a good pedigree for making popular and fun multiplayer games then so I'm cautiously optimistic for Pokemon UNITE.
Pokemon UNITE will be heading for the App Store, Google Play and Nintendo Switch at some stage in the future. It will be a free-to-start game with additional in-app purchases available.
