Pokémon Go is celebrating the franchise's 30th Anniversary with a nostalgic return to Kanto
Three decades of catching them all
- Kanto-themed 30th Anniversary event runs March 3rd to 9th
- Go Pass rewards include Mewtwo, Candy XL, and boosted milestones
- Legendary birds, Mythicals, and Ultra Beasts headline raid weekends
Thirty years of Pokémon feel different when you're actually younger than the franchise itself. I grew up watching Ash leave Pallet Town, humming the theme song (too loudly for sure), and getting into heated debates with my friends about which starter was the best.
Now, three decades later, Pokémon Go is gearing up for its own 10th anniversary, and it’s crazy to see how far this journey’s come. From March 3rd to 9th, the Pokémon 30th Anniversary event takes us straight back to Kanto. A dedicated Go Pass will let you rank up through catches and tasks, with rewards like a Mewtwo encounter and a ton of Candy.
If you go Deluxe, you'll get extra Mewtwo Candy XL and even more Kanto encounters, including the original Legendary birds. There's also a weekend where the daily Go Point cap is lifted, so it's basically an open invitation to go all out.

Wild spawns are packed with Pokémon from the original 151. You’ll see everything from Pikachu and Eevee to the heavy hitters like Alakazam, Machamp, and Dragonite – all depending on your habitat. Regionals like Mr Mime and Tauros stay locked in their usual spots, but Ditto is back to its disguise shenanigans, tying into the Pokopia Celebration event happening nearby.
Raids are all about that nostalgia, too. Starter evolutions lead the three-star raids, while the All Out weekend will mix things up with Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and a bunch of Mythicals and Ultra Beasts, depending on where you’re playing. If you're trying to make the most of your raid passes, be sure to check the schedule before you dive in.
That’s not even all. Two km Egg pools stacked with baby Pokémon, boosted Catch XP and Candy through Go Pass milestones, and a final weekend where almost every previously debuted species can appear in its natural biome.
