Pokemon Go is celebrating Lunar New Year 2023 with Darumaka and a bunch of other Pokemon
We’re just a week away from the Lunar New Year and Niantic has already planned a whole celebration on Pokémon Go. From finding special Pokémon in the wild and through eggs to participating in themed events and challenges, trainers will be able to enjoy it all.
The Lunar New Year 2023 event will run between January 19th and 23rd until 8:00 pm local time. Pokémon like Darumaka and Flareon will be available in the wild at a great rate alongside Ponyta, Magmar, Slugma, Magikarp, Numel, Feneekin, and more. Players also have a much greater chance than usual of finding a Shiny Darumaka.
A branching Timed Research called Lucky Wishes will go live during the event, which will task trainers with choosing options to chart out their rewards pathway. Based on the quests they have, bonuses may range between hatching eggs, a higher duration for the Daily Adventure Incense, or more Stardust.
Regardless of what is picked, a Lucky Egg will be granted to everyone in addition to encounters with Combusken, Bunnelby, and Azumarill, among a few others. Field Research tasks will feature a tonne of other Fire-type Pokémon like Charmander, Cyndaquil, Torchic, Chimchar, Tepig, and Fennekin.
And since Darumaka and its Shiny variants are the showstoppers for the Lunar Year, they will be part of all the reward encounters. The festival is also a great time of giving because there is 2x Stardust for opening gifts and an increased chance to make Lucky Friends and also find Lucky Pokémon in trades. Speaking of trades, an extra special one will be allowed too.
Finally, the item shop will feature themed items like the Red Lantern Backpack that can be purchased. These avatar items will be available throughout the event and after it is over as well, so there’s enough time to grab them.
