Near enough since the inception of video games, shooters have remained one of the most popular genres. Whether it's an enjoyable single-player experience or heading into a multiplayer game to test your skills against others, there's a shooter for everyone. And that's also the case on mobile. There was a time when the idea of playing a shooter on mobile seemed ridiculous since they didn't handle well on touch screens.

Now that technology has advanced, that viewpoint is a little outdated. Call of Duty Mobile, for instance, plays fantastically with touch controls. But the beauty of mobile gaming lies in its versatility. If you still don't enjoy playing mobile shooters with a touch screen. Fear not. There are plenty of them with controller support, meaning you can enjoy the console experience on the go. If you’re looking for a controller recommendation, I’d go with the Razer Kishi V2. It sports tactile buttons, which means each shot feels responsive, which is exactly what you want, particularly for competitive shooters.

So if you're on the hunt for some fantastic shooters you can enjoy with a controller, you're in the right place. Hit the big blue button below for five great suggestions.

DOOM

Find out more about

One of the first games to put shooters on the gaming map, Doom was first released in 1993 and remains a blast to play to this day. If you're somehow unfamiliar, it's a fast-paced and frantic shooter where you gun down thousands of undead and demons with a variety of powerful guns, or, if you want to get up close and personal, a chainsaw.

The re-release of Doom you can enjoy on your phone comes with the 'Thy Flesh Consumed' expansion, meaning there's more demon-slaying goodness to be found. So, whether you're a Doom veteran or are yet to step into Doomguy's shoes, it's a must-play shooter.

Fortnite Battle Royale

Our next entry is only directly available for Android devices, though you can still enjoy it on iOS if you're subscribed to Xbox Pass Game Ultimate. Anyway, chances are you've probably already heard of Fortnite since the battle royale seems to possess undying popularity. It sees up to 100 players gliding onto a map before fighting it out to become the last person standing.

You will need to search the buildings scattered across the map from top to bottom in search of weapons. The rarer the gun, the greater your chances of survival. Along the way, you will also pick up resources which you can use to build constructs mid-fight to protect yourself from other players or to battle for a more favourable position.

You can download Fortnite for Android from the Epic Games website.

Alien: Isolation

Multiplayer games are great, but we thought it important to include a few single-player offerings on this list. Alien: Isolation is a survival shooter where you will have to contend with a Xenomorph and an army of androids aboard Sevastopol, a remote trading station. The reason? To search for Ellen Ripley, of course.

You play as her daughter Amanda who sets off on a journey to uncover the truth behind her mother's disappearance. Alien: Isolation is a slower affair than the other entries on this list. You will spend more time hiding than shooting, at times. But it's an incredibly tense experience that makes fantastic use of the Alien licence.

Space Marshals 2

Finally, we have a shooter for the more tactically minded folks among us. Space Marshals 2 sees you playing as Burton as he looks to fight crime across the galaxy. You can avoid incoming attacks by ducking into cover and then flank enemies to get the upper hand on them. Your arsenal includes more than guns, with frag grenades, flash bangs, drones, and mines at your disposal.

But going into each situation loud could swiftly end in your demise. So, you might prefer to take a stealthy approach instead. That means using silenced weapons and takedowns to reduce enemy numbers. Then, sure, when there's less to worry about, pull out a shotgun and empty some lead.
