Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the water, another great white-shaped rumour is abroad.

According to Chinese paper Economic Daily News, Wintek has been named as the sole touch panel manufacturer for the new white iPhone 5. EDN notes that the manufacturer declined to comment.

It's a fairly big rumour, considering that until now we had no idea that a white iPhone 5 even existed.

If Apple's release cycle stays true to to form, we should expect the iPhone 5 by summer. The white iPhone 4, long the subject of fervent online whisperings, is still slated for a spring 2011 release.

That means the legendary device will only be available for a few months before being upsataged by the new model.

Expect more rumours to follow as we enter the second quarter of the year.
