Sixaxis App makes DualShock 3 controller work on Android phone and tablet

(But only on rooted phones)

Sixaxis App makes DualShock 3 controller work on Android phone and tablet
|

An app has been released on the Android Market which allows users to pair their phones or tablets with Sixaxis or DualShock 3 controllers using a Bluetooth wireless connection (download). Sixaxis Controller allows up to four controllers to be used at once, and all 17 buttons can be mapped to different key presses. The analogue sticks work as directional key presses.

Despite the exciting possibilities, this development is probably far from making the Xperia Play and its controls obsolete.

The app cautions on its Market page that the software is “not for the faint-hearted” and also points out that the phone needs to be rooted for it to work. What’s more, support across Android devices is still currently rather limited.

Sixaxis Controller currently costs £1.07, but the developer also has a free compatibility checker available that will check to see if your phone can handle the app (download).
