SEGA investing heavily in 3D, '3DS is a breakthrough'
Expect to see Sonic's spikes in all their glory

SEGA chief Naoya Tsurumi was the latest CEO to feature in Nikkei Trendy's series of interviews, titled 'Keyman', where the Japanese magazine chats it up with the gaming industry's big boys.
SEGA, which has 12 to 15 titles planned for release in 2010, thinks Nintendo's 3D gaming handheld, the 3DS, is a breakthrough, and hopes to invest heavily in the new device. You won't just see Sonic's 3D bouncing rump in the palm of your hand, though. The publisher is intent on pushing 3D gaming in your living room, too.
The company plans to continue its aggressive assault on digital distribution platforms like Xbox Live Arcade, WiiWare, and the iPhone App Store. SEGA has already released eight iPhone games and an iPad app, but more are planned.
The final handheld game of note is Yakuza PSP. The handheld Tokyo brawler will hit Japan in the Autumn of 2010.
SEGA's next big thing is Sonic The Hedgehog 4, which will hit iPhone and iPad alongside console distro-services. We'll see it in person at E3 this month.
