Rumour: Sony preparing a clam-shell Android tablet - the S2
|

We’ve already heard murmerings of a flexible Sony tablet, the S1, that’s possibly on its way later this year, but now several sources speaking to Engadget have told the site that the company is already beavering away on another tablet device - the S2.

Rather than take the same route as the PlayStation-certified machine, the S2 consists of a clam-shell design, with a pair of 5.5-inch touchscreens available for prodding once the device is opened up.

The S2 is allegedly packing an Nvidia Tegra 2 dual-core processor like the S1, and (if true) appears to be an attempt by Sony to try and squeeze the large tablet form factor into a smaller carry space.

However, unlike most unnamed sources that pop up about forthcoming devices, the characters talking to the website have been downbeat about both its chances and construction, calling it “a dog”. Probably not in a Andrex puppy kind of way.

What do you think of a ‘clam shell’ tablet? Does it sound like something you’d prefer over the normal slate design, or is it ‘DOA’ (or should that be ‘DOG’)?

If you’re not a spambot, we’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
