Pachter: iPhone gaming is a fad and hasn't been all that successful

And it won't be troubling the PSP Go any time soon

Pachter: iPhone gaming is a fad and hasn't been all that successful
|

Analyst Michael Pachter of Wedbush Morgan believes that the iPhone is sitting in something of a false position in the wider games industry. He believes that it - and mobile gaming in general - will ultimately fail as competing devices enter the market.

In his annual industry report, under the no-nonsense title of "Mobile Phone Games are a Fad," Pachter stated that "it is not evident that more than 20 per cent of (iPhone) downloads are games." He thus believes that games have accounted for only $400 million of the App Store's sales during its first year.

Pachter also feels that handheld devices such as the PSPgo are in a strong position, and that the Sony device will "maintain its niche, without significant cannibalization" from the likes of the iPhone.

What do you think of that, then, fad-crazed pocket gamers?
