Nokia has unveiled the third edition of its Series 40 platform, the software that enables the manufacturer’s handsets to run the games, MMS messages and media-player applications that we all enjoy so much. The new software will enable Nokia to introduce larger screens with higher resolutions on its mass market handsets, as well as making it easier for games and software developers to create interactive 3D environments. As a consequence, games will look better and offer a more involving playing experience. "The interactive 3D graphics will enable richer games, messaging, custom user interfaces, product visualization and much more”, explained a spokesman for Nokia.

The first handsets to take advantage of the capabilities of the new software will be the Nokia 6280, 6270 and 6265. The 6280 and 6270 both feature high-resolution 320 x 240 screens and 2-megapixel cameras and will be released in the late autumn/early winter.
