Latest Japanese console sales show PSP is still very much on top
Sony's handheld outsells DS with two-to-one ease
PSP is still more than comfortably topping sales charts in Japan, as shown by the latest figures from Media Create for the week ending April 6th.
The console sold 120,964 units in total with its nearest competitor, Nintendo's DS, coming in at 55,190 units. The PSP sales are down a bit on last week's, when it shifted 129,986, but frankly it still stuffs its competitors and demonstrates the power of a top-selling game.
That game being, of course, Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, which has sold over 1.5 million copies since its release on March 27th. Although games such as the just-released Square title, Star Ocean 2, have no doubt contributed to PSP's sales surge, too.
But to put things in perspective, the latest Monster Hunter shifted 488,208 copies during the same week. In comparison, DS's top-selling game was Pokémon Ranger: Batonnage which managed a slightly less impressive 58,399 copies.
