iPhone 4S jailbreak could be around the corner

Tinkerers take note: those wishing for an iPhone 4S jailbreak could be getting an early present from a hacker more or less resembling Father Christmas.

The jolly festive benefactor in question is star iPhone Dev-team hacker MuscleNerd, who according to his tweets is tantalisingly close to delivering the goods.

Strangely, the trick in question seems only to work for the 4S, suggesting that the hack exploits hardware issues possibly overlooked in the update from 4 to 4S.

Such hardware exploits are increasingly rare, and a lot harder for Apple to fix.
