Apple releases details of 2008's top iPhone apps

Hard to believe the iPhone's only been around (as a gaming platform) for about six months, eh? In that time, it's risen to some lofty heights that we'll be talking about for many years to come, but it's nice to see Apple giving the application developers an opportunity to stand for applause - after all, they're the ones who really helped shunt the iPhone into such a high orbit.

What's most tragic is that the top paid game, Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D, receives its accolade only days after Vivendi Mobile closes its doors. So sad, so sad. But helping to keep the big developers interested in the iPhone as a viable platform is Super Monkey Ball - one of the system's launch games that's apparently still as popular today as when the iPhone kicked off.

The list goes on to highlight Cro-Mag Rally, Texas Hold 'em, Enigmo, Flick Bowling and a host of other very recognisable names in the top list. You can also see how the free apps are doing, along with the most popular utilities, entertainment and other apps in the iPhone's categories.

One point of interest is that the listing seems to be regionalised, as the UK App Store page doesn't particularly seem to tally with the US list posted by TouchArcade. Not that it really matters, but it's interesting to see how our habits differ on either side of the pond.
