28th Annual Golden Joystick Awards are open for nominations

iPhone + DS + DSi ...

Future Publishing has opened up the polls for this year's Golden Joystick Awards, which celebrate the crème of the crop in the year's top titles in the UK.

Well, games released between May 22nd 2009 and May 22nd 2010 at least.

It's the 28th year the awards have run, and like the ever changing culture of these digital entertainment products we're so infatuated with, the awards have been tweaked to match the trends of the industry.

New year, new awards

There are 16 awards in total, but Mobile Game of the Year is long gone. In its place is Downloadable Game of the Year which houses everything from console digital marketplaces like Xbox Live Arcade and WiiWare, to top mobile platform, iPhone.

And then Handheld Game of the Year (which used to house just DS and PSP) has been renamed Portable Game of the Year, and shoves mobile gaming in with the big boy handhelds.

And finally, the Ultimate Game of the Year has pretty much every game under the sun, so if Uncharted 2 or Halo 3: ODST didn't do it for you, you could bestow the ultimate prize to Space Miner or Rolando 2.

You have to vote by 27 May and from those votes, a short list of nominations will be created, with another voting session held over the summer.

The ceremony will be held on October 29th in London.

You can cast your vote right here.
