Monster Hunter Mobile tops 1 million users in Japan

According to a press release from Capcom (translated by Andriasang), the company has attracted over a million active mobile users to a mobile multiplayer spin-off of the immensely popular Monster Hunter series in Japan in just two months.

The game, catchily translated as Monhan Diary Mobile Felyne Village, is based on the Felyne mascot from the game that accompanies the hunters on the hunt, and takes the form of a social/co-operative village building game.

Part of its success has been attributed to a ‘friend introduction system’ on DeNA’s Mobagetown service, which we presume is like a friend reward scheme, which Capcom claims has helped more players from outside the series’ fan base to jump onboard.

DeNA recently made waves in the western mobile world by purchasing ngmoco, the developer/publisher of a huge range of freemium MMOs on iPhone.
