Metboy is a cute combination of Flappy Bird and Resogun and it’s out now on mobile
Rebuild Games has done a worldwide release of its Flappy Bird x Resogun action game, Metboy, on iOS and Android devices now.
As has already been said, it’s an action game from some former Pokémon developers that combines elements of classic titles Flappy Bird and Resogun, where you play as the titular character, Metboy, as they defend their world of Metland against evil invaders who have arrived to steal the Seven Coloured Gem.
There are six stages to play through, each one featuring unique, challenging bosses and imaginative, colourful characters. To help circumvent the difficulty, there are also a number of unlockable power ups which can be used to enhance Metboy’s powers as they repel the invaders.
If you’re good enough, you can also unlock the phantom US version of Metboy, an alternative version of the game that was, according to Rebuild Games, apparently banned in Japan due to its extreme difficulty. It sounds like skilled players will have a great time working out how to beat this.
Metboy is developed by Rebuild Games and originally had a Japan release in last March. Members of the team include Hosaka Genya and Aki Asaba, whose previous credits include working on Pokémon Sword and Shield for Game Freak.
The game has been a success in Japan so far and it was awarded a top three slot in the Google Play Indie Games Festival 2020. An updated version of Metboy will also release on Nintendo Switch later this year under the title Super Metboy, which brings online and couch co-op to the game as well as more and expanded game modes, and new customisation options.
