Big steps, monstrous you might say

Kaiju No. 8: The Game hits 300k pre-registrations
  • Kaiju No. 8: The Game has reached a new pre-registration milestone
  • More than 300,000 fans have now signed up
  • And to celebrate, fans can nab 10x Gacha Tickets from the reward track

With the enormous number of anime-based mobile releases out there, it's sometimes hard to keep track of all of them. But one that's been making a splash is Kaiju No. 8: The Game, Akatsuki's adaptation of the hit monster-battling manga and anime series. And now, this upcoming release has hit a new milestone with over 300,000 pre-registrations reached!

To celebrate, Akatsuki Games will be adding 10x Gacha Tickets to the reward track available on release. At 500,000 pre-registrations, meanwhile, it's been announced that fans will also be able to grab the four-star [Aiming for Greater Heights] Mina Ashiro character.

Kaiju No. 8: The Game is, as you might expect, based on the hit anime and manga series. It takes fans to an alternate universe with the Japanese Self Defence Force has to contend with the invasion of giant monsters, and it turns out that one humble individual may hold the key to transforming into one of them and halting their attacks.

Kaiju No. 8: The Game has been slowly gaining ground in terms of pre-registration milestones, but no doubt, there are many players (especially those who were fans of Akatsuki's previous high-profile release, Tribe Nine) who are cautious to celebrate prematurely.

At the same time, with its mixture of classic kaiju sensibilities and a more grounded, gritty style to the designs of the creatures, I can see Kaiju No. 8 proving to be a hit when it releases based on that criteria alone.

Still, there are plenty of other great releases out there that may not get their due. So if you've spotted one you think deserves recognition, why not express as much by checking in on the 2025 edition of the Pocket Gamer People's Choice Awards! Nominations are now open for the best of the best when it comes to mobile.
