The Idolmaster Shiny Colors: Song for Prism, the latest entry into the massive mixed media project, is set to open up a playtest in the near future

Bandai Namco has announced that their brand new 3D rhythm game designed for mobile, Idolmaster Shiny Colors: Song for Prism, will be launching its first playtest come May 19th and is set to run till May 23rd. This new entry into the extremely popular Idolmaster franchise will introduce a new story, new characters, and of course a barrage of new songs to the setting.

Idolmaster, for those unaware, is a mixed media project that has spanned numerous games both for home consoles and mobile alike, as well as a few anime series too. It’s one of the more recognisable names for Japanese audiences, and typically revolves around a group of school-aged characters who moonlight as musical idols. Each entry into the series focuses on a different group of students as they navigate the hardships of life as well as musical career struggles too.

You, as the titular Idolmaster, usually act as a producer for this group and take care of their growth. This can range from levelling up their skills in a gameplay sense to offering up advice and pointing them to the right path in life. It’s made for a pretty successful formula that has remained so since launching way back in the early 2000s, so there’s a lot of lineage going on for this series too.

And now, with Song for Prism, you’ll get to meet a few new different groups of idols to help out, all while enjoying a Guitar Hero-like form of rhythm gameplay with fully rendered 3D CG music videos playing out in the background. If you’re a fan of the rhythm genre and have not given Idolmaster a go yet, I highly recommend preparing to do so by signing up for this future playtest using this link. These sign-ups will remain open until May 7th, so be sure you get on it!
