Heroes vs. Evil: Gacha Defense, a mix between an auto-battler and tower defence, launches for iOS and Android

The brand new quasi-tower defence Heroes vs. Evil: Gach Defense has launched for mobile courtesy of developer macovill. This oddball mash-up of tower defence and auto battler involves collecting a party of three different characters, who must then be levelled up and equipped with progressively stronger gear to keep up with the increasingly difficult levels you’ll face.

Heroes vs. Evil is quite simple, in truth. This is no Bloons TD in terms of advanced tower defense gaming but is instead somewhere between an idle game and something like Vampire Survivors. The entire premise of the game relies on a semi-gacha system, but not quite like the ones you might be used to from games within that specific genre.

When Heroes vs. Evil says gacha, what they really mean is that one of the three characters you bring onto the stage will be randomly summonable with no input from you. Instead, you will collect a currency that will allow you to upgrade the three characters you bring in and also will let you summon one of those three. This one-of-three summon is the random part, and while it may turn you off to hear such a thing, it does introduce a level of adaptability that is desired from its players, which is a pretty cool twist on the genre.

Aside from that, though, the game plays itself. You place the character you summon on one of the grid spaces while enemies swarm in from the top of the map, and you have to stop them from getting to the bottom by positioning your units properly and upgrading them correctly, all while dealing with the random nature of the summoning system.

All-in-all, a pretty unique spin on the genre of tower defence games. If you’re interested, give it a whirl for free at either of the links below now!
