Welcome to our Garena Free Fire SMGs complete guide! This is another step on our quest to cover all of the weapons in Free Fire completely, so stay with us in the days to come! You can already check our Free Fire launchers guide and LMG guide.

Today we are covering SMGs, and of course, we have to start with a few interesting facts. SMG is short for the sub-machine gun, a term developed by the creator of the famous Thompson gun, General John Thompson. A curious fact is that the first one was made by Steyr in Austria-Hungary (M1912) for trench warfare, and it resembled a handgun much more than the modern SMGs.

How to make most of the Free Fire SMGs?

In Garena Free Fire SMG is a basic weapon, usually found as a regular first weapon. The moment when you drop is the perfect time to find one. It has enough range to kill anyone around you, and the rate of fire enables you to out damage most other weapons. Especially when most foes don’t have any armor yet, or just have the first vest.

Later in the game, most players will find something more powerful and run with it, keeping the SMG as a solid backup weapon. Why? Well, it cannot pack enough punch to go through the best vests in the game. It will take a lot of time to down a foe who’s fully equipped, especially if the range is mid-long. Therefore, I suggest using it as a second option. There are weapons with a similar rate of fire that are much more reliable to use in long-range fights, as well as the close range.

I’ve seen pro players using them in the late game, but most players aren’t skilled enough to do this (including me) so I’d rather use an assault rifle or LMG if I’m going for full auto. To be honest, if you compare the stats with other automatic weapons, you’ll realize that most SMGs can’t compare with any AR and win.

Mostly, the play tactic with SMGs is to run around as much as possible to get in range, use walls for cover, and then quickly burst down the opponent.

Let’s check each Garena Free Fire SMG in detail.

CG15

free fire SMG guide - CG15

As far as my knowledge of guns goes - there is no real weapon that this SMG is made after. The design is futuristic, it looks great. If I’m wrong, please let me know in the comments, I’ll correct it.

As for the CG15 usage, I’m sure that there is nothing similar. This weapon has a unique firing mode. One is regular, fully auto as any other SMG. The other one is something we can call a charging shot. The weapon literally charges to 100% and it fires one really devastating shot. Headshots can kill, and the body shot can take away a lot of HP, even at long distances.

This is great, as you have both long-range and short-range options in one gun, although it doesn’t have a lot of ammo, so you’ll need to place your shots carefully.

P90

free fire SMG guide - P90

Most of the players that played CS will recognize this weapon immediately! It has that distinguishing single-block look. P90 was made in the ’90s (Ha!) by the Belgian company FN Herstal. Still used by NATO.

P90 is not one of the best SMGs in Garena Free Fire, to be honest. It has the biggest magazine, sure and kinda fine rate of fire. However, the rest of the stats are weaker, making it a real mid-class SMG. You can add a scope to it, but what’s the point?

Use it in the short to mid-range.

  • DAMAGE: 49
  • RATE OF FIRE: 76
  • RANGE: 27
  • RELOAD SPEED: 48

MP40

free fire MP40 guide

One of the most notorious and most famous infantry weapons of WW2 was certainly the MP40. It was made in Germany and used at the beginning of the war, all the way to 1943 when it was swapped with StG44. The allies often referred to the weapon as the "Schmeisser".

Good players really dig MP40 in Free Fire. Mostly because of its extreme rate of fire. It can mow down any opponent that’s not using a vest by the time you say strudel.

But that’s the only good attribute the weapon has. Everything else is really underwhelming when you compare it with other SMGs. The magazine can only hold 20 rounds, and it has a really awful accuracy. I’d not recommend the weapon to the new players. They’ll find much more suitable weapons in the rest of our Free Fire SMGs guide!

  • DAMAGE: 48
  • RATE OF FIRE: 83
  • RANGE: 22
  • RELOAD SPEED: 48
  • MAGAZINE: 20
  • ACCURACY: 17
  • MOVEMENT SPEED: 63
  • ARMOR PENETRATION: 0

UMP

free fire SMG guide - UMP

Second German-made SMG in a row. However, this one was made in the late ‘90s and hasn't seen that much action. It was (and still is) made by Heckler and Koch to replace the next item on our list.

I’d recommend this SMG before any other to the new players. UMP has a solid rate of fire and range. Magazine size is well above the average, and the accuracy is great. But the main advantage is not in the stats. It’s stability. UMP has almost no recoil! Other than that, you can fit every upgrade on it except the stock, making it much better than the default version.

  • DAMAGE: 49
  • RATE OF FIRE: 75
  • RANGE: 36
  • RELOAD SPEED: 77
  • MAGAZINE: 48
  • ACCURACY: 79
  • MOVEMENT SPEED: 63
  • ARMOR PENETRATION: 0
  • ATTACHMENTS: MAGAZINE, SILENCER, MUZZLE, FOREGRIP, SCOPE

MP5

free fire MP5

You could say that Germans really love their SMGs, as this is the third on our list. MP5 is the most used and most recognizable SMG in the world. You could say it has a legendary status. It was made in the ‘60s and there are over 40 variations of the weapon still in use. One of the favorite SMGs of special forces throughout the world.

Another above-average SMG in Garena Free Fire. Its stats are similar to the UMP, and the weapon is also exceptionally stable. They can even fit the same upgrades! Highly recommended for both new and experienced players.

  • DAMAGE: 48
  • RATE OF FIRE: 67
  • RANGE: 41
  • RELOAD SPEED: 77
  • MAGAZINE: 48
  • ACCURACY: 54
  • MOVEMENT SPEED: 66
  • ARMOR PENETRATION: 0
  • ATTACHMENTS: MAGAZINE, SILENCER, MUZZLE, FOREGRIP, SCOPE

VSS

VSS SMG Guide

VSS Vintorez is a Russian made designated marksman rifle or DMR. The capability to quickly dismantle it and a built-in silencer made it a perfect weapon for undercover special ops operations.

In the Free Fire VSS is an SMG. And since there is no DMR category, we’ll also treat it as an SMG! VSS also has a built-in silencer and scope in the default version. It’s recommended to use the weapon from mid to long-range, unlike any other SMG. It has a great range, and we recommend using it from any type of cover.

  • DAMAGE: 54
  • RATE OF FIRE: 48
  • RANGE: 82
  • RELOAD SPEED: 55
  • MAGAZINE: 15
  • ACCURACY: 73
  • MOVEMENT SPEED: 59
  • ARMOR PENETRATION: 0
  • ATTACHMENTS: MAGAZINE, STOCK

7
Thompson

free fire SMG - Thompson

Another notorious weapon, not by its use in wars, but in criminal operations. It was made at the end of WWI, and when the war was over, a lot of pieces were left for sale. Criminals in the US abused the weapon (Al Capone, John Dillinger...), as it was portable, light, and easy to use. The biggest joke is, the police and the FBI which chased them also used the Thompsons!

This is an average SMG in Free Fire. Nothing special about it, and it can only fit two upgrades, so there isn’t much room for improvement. It looks cool, but it’s not as efficient as other options you can take.

  • DAMAGE: 50
  • RATE OF FIRE: 77
  • RANGE: 33
  • RELOAD SPEED: 48
  • MAGAZINE: 42
  • ACCURACY: 42
  • MOVEMENT SPEED: 64
  • ARMOR PENETRATION: 0
  • ATTACHMENTS: MUZZLE, FOREGRIP

Best SMG in Free Fire

The competition is pretty rough. Some of the weapons we covered in this guide are very different from the others. If you take everything into the account, we have to give our final vote to the MP5. It’s the best balanced SMG in Free Fire, and it fits any playstyle.

When I was 6 y/o, my gaming journey began on Amiga 600. That’s where the Worms, The Secret of Monkey Island, Lemmings and many other legendary games made their first appearance. People say: “you can’t find games like that anymore”, but I beg to differ. Anyway, you can still see the same passion and zoning out whenever I’m doing something I like, including my lifelong passion – gaming. I’m currently doing a different line of work, SEO Management and writing, but when the time allows I get into the games I love and spend some peaceful hours. If friends are playing with me, it’s even merrier.
