Football Manager RPG now called Football Management RPG after threat of legal action from Sega

Football Manager RPG developer Alex Mertens has changed the name of his footy sim to Football Management RPG following threats of legal action from Football Manager publisher Sega.

“They [Sega] have threatened legal action including reimbursement of any profits I have made to them for the use of their trademark,” Mertens told us by email.

“As a one-man developer I am obviously not keen to go up against Sega's legal department and have no choice but to rename the game."

A strong defensive partnership

According to Mertens, Apple has been “fantastic” throughout the whole process: The Big A opted not to remove Mertens's game in draconian fashion and instead opened up lines of communication with the developer first.

“It's great to know that they [Apple] will remain impartial and not bow to the will of the software giants against the little indie devs.”

Sega also claims that the content of Mertens's iPhone game may infringe its copyright.

You can decide that one for yourself by watching the trailer below and checking out the screenshots in our gallery above.
