My anticipation rises for iPhone physics bouncer Floop!
Feeding the animals
Like a kid slowly counting down the days to Christmas, I've been waiting not very patiently for Blacksmith Game's Floop!
Submitted to the App Store 10 days ago, it's apparently still being improved by the developer, which had created the interesting situation that it will be updated before being released.
Gobbing inStill, the reason for my excitement is that it appears to combine two of my favourite - and indeed two of the most generally popular - games on the App Store.
A physics puzzler, Floop! has elements of Fragger, as well as a bit of Angry Birds, as you try to fire an acorn into the huge month of a monstrous squirrel.
50 levels across four themes - beach, office, supermarket, sport - are promised, and as you progress the action will change, offering you the chance to fire cheese into the mouth of a mouse, or a banana at an ape.
Obviously the dynamics of different objects will change the gameplay.
Looking goodThe other reason I think it will be great is the quality of the artwork; something previously demonstrated in Blacksmith Game's Plushed.
Now, to be truthful, I was disappointed when reviewing it, because it didn't live up to its potential - subsequent updates fixed many of the initial problems.
Nevertheless, the simpler gameplay of Floop!, combined with the care and attention the game is clearly receiving, makes me optimistic this could be one of 2010's sleeper hits.
Floop! is due to be released in early November. You can see how it plays in the following video.
