Epic Battle Fantasy 5, the latest entry into the legendary flash game series, launches onto mobile
The latest entry into the popular satirical JRPG series Epic Battle Fantasy, appropriately named Epic Battle Fantasy 5, has finally launched. This series as a whole sees you embark on a wildly hilarious and lighthearted romp through an over-the-top RPG world reminiscent of classics like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest, but instead full of tropes, weird characters, and an assortment of other laughing stocks.
Epic Battle Fantasy, in case you aren’t familiar, is a satirical take on JRPGs in every entry within the franchise. Whereas some other games within this genre might take themselves seriously and tell you an emotional tale, Epic Battle Fantasy does away with that in service of nothing but pure humour. It’s silly, oftentimes juvenile, and chock full of references to a ton of other video games.
Where it gets enticing is in the fact that Epic Battle Fantasy wears all of these traits proudly. It is very intentionally all of these things, and is not ashamed to show off the tropes it navigates in hilarious ways. From typical party member traits like the classic edgier and brooding swordsman to the heroic protagonist, everyone speaks in a self-aware manner and makes fun of their setting as they adventure together.
Gameplay-wise, you know exactly what you’re getting into. It’s classic JRPG combat, turn-based and based on levelling up by gathering XP from encounters as you collect gear to buff your stats and unlock new abilities for each character.
There’s a ton of content on offer here too, with over 200 different foes to battle, over 120 skills to use, and 30+ hours of gameplay as well. It’s a rich JRPG experience, just untraditional in nature - which is not at all a bad thing!
