The next instalment of Gameloft's Dungeon Hunter series is out now on the New Zealand App Store, meaning it'll be out in the UK and US from midnight tonight.

Normally, I'd have said something like "dungeon-crawling RPG series" in that intro paragraph, but while this is true for the previous entries, Dungeon Hunter 3 takes a completely different angle on the action-RPG genre.

Instead of 'crawling' and 'loot whoring', you'll be picking from four different character classes and pitted against waves of baddies in an enclosed arenas - a bit like Gun Bros but with magic, axes, and bosses.

The game is a freemium title (as seems to be the case with all of Gameloft's recent games), so the initial download is free. Unlike, say, Six Guns, all equipment bar consumable items can be bought with the in-game currency, so you don't have to miss out on the very best armour (real) money can buy if you're willing to grind it out.

This initial release is single-player only, disappointingly, but Gameloft has told me that an update with co-op and PvP modes will be heading across early next year.
