Dino Cataclysm Survival tier list (April 2026) - The top Mutabeasts, ranked

Want to be top of the food chain? Check out our Dino Cataclysm Survival tier list to see where we rank the best mutabeasts in this strategy MMORPG.

  • Dino Cataclysm: Survival offers a prehistoric adventure to undertake
  • But what about battles? Well, Mutabeasts offer exciting, dino-battling action!
  • So, for your convenience, we've ranked them all in one place

After we last talked about Dino Cataclysm: Survival, there was one topic I think many of you were hoping we'd cover. Well, wonder no more as we dig into the Mutabeasts of lore and rank them by tier! Find out which are hot, which are not, and how exactly these distinctive dinosaurs work.

For those not in the know, Dino Cataclysm is an MMO strategy that sees you head into the distant past in order to save Earth's future by…doing something. It's not exactly Michael Crichton, but it's not a terrible experience, either.

Dino Cataclysm Survival tier list

As part of the overall suite of mechanics, Mutabeasts are dinosaurs you incubate from eggs to gather shards that can then be used to recruit them. They're used for battles when you explore the map, and can be sent out to raid dungeons alongside smaller 'troop' sentinel dinos that're produced in the clone lab.

So, they basically function as your heroes. Now let's dive in and see how they rank!

1
Null Tier - Tips & Tricks

Mutabeasts come in three types: Aviator, Protector and Striker. As you might expect, these basically boil down to support, tank and damage. Typically, flying dinosaurs remain at the back to use ranged abilities, while larger dinosaurs and raptors move forward to engage the enemy.

Surprisingly, spacing does actually play a part as dinos have collision. This means that smaller dinos can effectively flank and overwhelm larger ones, but you won't be able to adequately lay out your starting lineup to take advantage of that. So it's usually you who faces said drawback.

Two groups of dinosaurs engage in combat.

Typically, raw numbers and power are what will win the day for you. However, it can be good to build up a good roster of mutabeasts so you can adapt on the fly, such as using a large number of strikers to overwhelm relatively few protectors since their damage output is not nearly as strong.

Be sure to check each dinosaur's story too. Aside from offering some relatively inoffensive and neat lore about their background, it also provides a new entry upon each increase in their tier, with some corresponding rewards. Nothing crazy, but always worth checking.

A Tier

  • Neil (Gigantopithecus)
  • Sue (Tyrannosaurus Rex)
  • Tyler (Spinosaurus)
  • Brutus (Torvosaurus)
  • Aero (Dimorphodon)
  • Enya (Pteranadon)
  • I'm eschewing the use of an S tier for this Dino Cataclysm Survival tier list, as there are some dinos I haven't yet unlocked, so my ranking comes down to their theoretical power level and previewed abilities. Admittedly, there's not much tactical depth, so it shouldn't matter either way what you pick as long as they're rarer and more powerful.

But in terms of ability, there are a lot of reasons to rank these three higher. Neil, in particular, boasts extremely powerful abilities that increase his defence massively, while Enya serves as the only aviator of the SSR roster, combining power with the ability to hang around at the back.

As of the time of writing, Enya is one of the rewards available for logging in, so be sure to jump in and grab them if you're able to, because they're an easy flying addition to your roster!

    B Tier

  • Blade (Dilophosaurus)
  • Mogo (Megatherium)
  • Queen (Argentavis)
  • Clara (Nyctosaurus)
  • Nasser (Haast's Eagle)
  • Blue (Velociraptor)
  • This is where I'm placing those I have the most experience with that I've found to be quite useful. Some of these are lesser rarity but have particularly useful abilities, such as Mogo and his AoE attack that makes him an effective damage dealer in sharp contrast to those who soak it up, such as Nugget.

    C Tier

  • Celos (Therizinosaurus)
  • Gandrak (Carbonemys)
  • Havoc (Carnotaurus)
  • This section of the Dino Cataclysm Survival tier list features broadly helpful but less powerful dinosaurs overall. Celos, for example, is your first striker, and their Shatter Scythe ability will be your main damage output in the very early levels. They still provide strong power well into the mid-game as I've found, while Havoc's Fury Drive ability only offers a 'chance' of increasing by 5% for eight seconds, with a cap on three stacks.

    5
    D Tier

An image of a triceratops with black stripes and an olive-coloured hide.
  • Nugget (Triceratops)
  • Guido (Microraptor)
  • Now, I'll preface this ranking by saying that 'bad' here is subjective. And to be honest, I feel you can't get an objective ranking without having an uncomfortable number of hours in; however, let me explain my reasoning at least.

This tier is for those dinos that simply aren't as good at their role as others. They'll be easy to replace early on and are really only there to fill slots or lead very specific lineups.

Nugget, for example, simply attracts damage but doesn't have any abilities to actually reduce it early on (although he does later gain the ability to boost your dino's defence by 2%). While Guido is simply less powerful than other strikers, even if you consider other raptors.

And that's it for our Dino Cataclysm Survival tier list! If you'd rather rank skills and classes as opposed to prehistoric predators, how about our Fantamon: Idle RPG Skill tier list or our SealM on Cross tier list instead?
