DanChro: Battle Chronicle will shut down for good later this year
  • DanChro ends service on September 29th
  • Second anniversary content will roll out on July 30th
  • Regular events are to go live as planned

The battle action RPG Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: Battle Chronicle (DanChro) will officially end service in September this year, two years after its global launch. The announcement was made today by the directors, citing the usual reason of not being able to maintain a level of service that meets players’ expectations.

DanChro launched in August 2023 with over one million pre-registrations and quickly crossed three million downloads. Backed by the DanMachi IP and supported with regular content updates, the RPG offered a flashy mix of 3D battle action and character collection. However, it’s now the latest in a growing list of gacha-based mobile games that have been shut down despite strong starts.

As part of the final stretch, DanChro will roll out a Second Anniversary event on July 30th, featuring an original story penned by series creator Fujino Omori. This will be the last new piece of content it receives. Paid Selas will stop being sold from that same date after maintenance, and the game, along with customer support, will officially close on all platforms at the end of September.

With juggernauts like Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Blue Archive commanding a huge share of user attention and spending, it’s becoming harder for entries like DanChro to sustain an audience. Unless developers take creative risks or carve out distinct niches, more mid-sized gacha RPGs may find themselves facing the same fate.

DanChro will finally shut down for good on September 29th. You have until then to spend all your Selas, participate in the second anniversary festivities, and all the other events that release over the next few months. Visit the official website for the entire schedule.
