Clash Royale introduces new Merge Tactics mode and Spirit Empress character

Unsurprisingly for something released by Supercell, Clash Royale has been a major hit over the years. But, rather excitingly, we've been promised big things for the most recent update. And as it's been unveiled, it's definitely a doozy, with a new mode and a major new character for us to enjoy!

That new mode is none other than Merge Tactics. Rather than completely reinventing the core concept of Clash Royale, Merge Tactics instead offers an alternative ruleset where you merge summoned units to create more powerful troops. You likely already know how this sort of thing works, especially if you're familiar with competitor Rush Royale.

Next up is none other than the Spirit Empress, a particular favourite of the team working on Clash Royale. She is described as the face of Merge Tactics. This legendary is able to battle on foot or take to the skies, offering two forms in one card.

While I think that we'll have to wait and see what the wider community thinks of the Spirit Empress, I think that the Merge Tactics mode is an incredible idea. Considering it adds a fresh new spin while, as I said, not interfering with the core mode either.

There's also the rather scarily named Skeleton Barrel Evolution mode, with double the skeletons, double the barrels and double the mayhem. Add onto that a Path of Legends rework and the new Trophy Road extension, and you have a pretty hefty update for fans to sink their teeth into!
