After being announced about a month ago, the top-down roguelite shooter Brotato has finally officially launched onto mobile devices. Seeing some success after launching onto Steam late last year, Brotato is a light-hearted survival romp akin to something like Vampire Survivors or 20 Minutes Till Dawn and sees you building up a potato hero as he mows down hordes of monsters.

Brotato is yet another entry into what is now becoming a bit of a booming genre, which I have personally labelled Survivor-likes. Vampire Survivors was one of the most successful recent roguelite stories, and a lot of recent releases both onto mobile and PC alike have taken heavy inspiration from it in return. Brotato is no different in this regard, though it does switch up a few things.

The first of which is what makes it quite similar to 20 Minutes Till Dawn. Brotato uses an active aiming system of gameplay, unlike the quasi-auto battle mechanics that Vampire Survivors uses. You’ll have to manually aim your weapons here, swinging your crosshair to and fro to mow down enemy after enemy.

Otherwise, it’s a similar affair. You’ll pick up experience points as you kill foes, and each level will see you gain access to a different upgrade which could totally change the way you play or just add a smaller passive bonus to what you are using at that current moment. Again, if you’ve played games like Vampire Survivors, you know what you’re in for.

Still, with a cartoony aesthetic and a ton of different items and weapons to pick up, there’s a lot to dig about Brotato, especially if you like the genre. Don’t take my word for it! You can purchase Brotato yourself for only $4.99 at either of the links below!
