Block Fortress 2 brings the next level of voxel-based destruction to mobile later this year
  • Block Fortress 2 brings the hit franchise back to mobile
  • Create your own base and weather hordes of enemies
  • Take to the field yourself, hack, slash and blast your way through the Gobblocks

Longtime readers will remember the halcyon days of Minecraft-alikes. Many were the days spent in Castleminer Z and Fortresscraft back on the glory days of Xbox Live. But many of you will also have fond memories of Block Fortress. And now, you'll be able to relive them in brand-new form with Block Fortress 2 as it finally comes to mobile!

On the surface, Block Fortress 2 is as straightforward as you get when it comes to tower defence. Place your defences and fortifications before waiting for the arrival of hordes of enemies to cleave through. Where it differs, however, is being able to put your own boots on the ground.

Yes, much like spiritual inspiration, Minecraft, Block Fortress 2 lets you place your defences and fortifications manually. And then when the horde of Gobblocks arrives, you'll be able to take the fight to them as well with your own arsenal of weapons and gadgets, such as rocket launchers and jetpacks.

Here today, gob tomorrow

Dubbing Block Fortress 2 a simple 'Minecraft-like' would be doing it a bit of a disservice. The franchise, such as it is, was already pretty distinct and has leaned a lot more heavily into the tower defence and chaotic fun aspects.

And with a huge variety of enemies to take on, weapons to use, your own units to command and bases to build, there's a swathe of content set to arrive with Block Fortress 2. So keep an eye on it, because it's available to install now on Google Play, and in pre-reg on iOS.

Meanwhile, if you want to keep Ahead of the Game with top releases like this, be sure to check in on our regular feature of the same name! This week, Catherine covered Blast Survivors and its mutant blasting action.
