Mojang is launching the first phase of its big Caves and Cliffs update for Minecraft next week on 8th June.

The update will be coming to all versions of Minecraft, both Bedrock and Java, which includes mobile versions on iOS and Android as well as Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC, Mac and Linux.

It was announced back in April that the Caves and Cliffs update would be split into two parts due to it being the biggest update the developer has put out for the game in the ten years since its release.

As with most Minecraft updates, it adds a variety of new mobs, blocks and items to the game as well as making other big changes to the world. Caves and Cliffs is also changing how world generation works, including new underground cave biomes to make subterranean exploration more interesting.

Part one of this update focuses on the new mobs and items, including the Goat, Axolotl, Crystals, Spyglass, Geodes, Tinted Glass, Copper, Lightning Rod, Glow Squid, Glow Ink, Powder Snow, Lush Cave Blocks, Dripstone Cave Blocks, Deepslate, Ore Variants, Glow Lichen.

Meanwhile, the second part of the Caves and Cliffs update is confirmed to be coming later this year, planned for the “holiday season” and will presumably include all the new world and biome generation changes.

So you’ll be able to enjoy the first part of this hefty update from the game next week on mobile. You can download Minecraft from the iOS App Store and the Google Play for Android store, where it is a paid title that costs £6.99 and also includes in-app purchases.
